Children happily absorb the ideals of the Habonim Dror youth movement: sharing, inclusiveness, creativity and responsibility to the community in both the year-round activities and at sleep-away camp in the summer. Our year round programming focuses on tikkun olam, Jewish identity and Israel education. Each month, kids from all around Los Angeles gather to celebrate Jewish Holidays, engage in tikkun olam projects and just have fun! Children gain a complete summer camp experience of recreation and informal learning in an Israeli kibbutz-style atmosphere at our lake-front site in Big Bear, CA. Activities include archery, kayaking, swimming, sports, hiking, music, dance, arts and crafts. Shabbat is celebrated with special activities, and Hebrew is introduced into everyday camp life. Our campers return year after year, developing leadership qualities and a love of Israel. On GIVE, we visit an array of chesed organizations and experience firsthand what it means to be a responsible member of the Jewish people by helping those in need. From soup kitchens to medical clowning, greeting a Nefesh B’Nefesh flight to painting kindergartens in underprivileged communities, GIVErs are able to contribute to the many needs of those Jews living in Israel. While GIVE’s primary focus is volunteer work, touring and exposure to the land of Israel continues to be a major piece of the summer. When not engaged in chesed activities, GIVE takes you to many of the major tourist attractions throughout Israel. Some highlights include spending Shabbat in Tzfat, banana boating on the Kineret, hiking in the Judean desert and the Golan, mountain rappelling and floating in the Dead Sea. GIVE is an opportunity for girls to give back some of the good that they have received in their lives to those less fortunate. For an amazing summer that allows you to experience tangible Judaism in an incredibly exciting environment, while making friends from all over, sign up for NCSY’s GIVE! Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! read less

Our Year One program (summer, winter and spring camps) focuses on Theatre, Music, Dance, Art and Social/Emotional Wellness. Through the past two years, our youngest citizens have proven resilient and adaptive to the demands of the pandemic. Our theatre camp invites our campers to discover their inner artist and voice of self-expression. In two 2-week sessions, campers will perform, write, move and express what the past two years have meant to them. With professionals as their guide, our program is rooted in the Jewish values of Creativity, Community, and Compassion and is open to people of all faiths and walks of life. Every day invites students into a different middah (character trait) for them to reflect upon how they grew over the past two years, and how they will take their experiences forward. Through the power of theatre and expression, campers will present a full production in each two-week session: the first session will be the play Free to Be You and Me and the second session will be an original work written by the campers. Campers may participate in either one or both sessions. Located at Electric Lodge and Open Temple House, campers will enjoy the facilities’ dance studio, theatre, classroom, atelier, and outdoor spaces. Session 1: July 11 – July 22 9 am – 3 pm, aftercare available In this session, campers will work together to produce and perform in the classic musical Free to Be You and Me.
